Sharjah Co-operative Society

The Sharjah Co-operative Society was founded in March 1977 by ministerial decree (no. 16, 1977) as the first co-operative society in the United Arab Emirates. This came under the directive of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The main objective if this was to spread cooperative services in Sharjah and to socially and economically raise the standard of living of its inhabitants by adopting the principles of co-operative organisations.

As a co-operative society, we are very much focussed on the following principles:

• We continue to develop our branches, build new sites and develop new services for the people of Sharjah
• We are committed to our role in Sharjah society, co-operating with different segments and institutions across the Emirate
• We continue to spend part of our profits to support social activities as part of our responsibility to serve our community

Our Retail Business

As a retail business that has continued to develop over the last 40 years. Sharjah Co-op has established a strong position in the retail market, and has become a standard for quality and good value products.

This position is supported by a network of around 30 branches that are equipped with all modern shopping facilities and are spread throughout the emirate.

As part of our continuous development program and to offer more options convenience, we have launched our e-commerce site. Now you can order from the comfort of your home or office, and have your shopping delivered to the location of your choice at a times that is convenient for you.

Social Responsibility

Sharjah Co-operative Society believes in playing its role in the community through supporting and patronizing cultural, charitable, humanitarian, environmental, educational, medical and economic activities.

We have supported and patronized activities at several institutions such as:

• Sharjah Charity International
• Al-Thiqah Club for Handicapped
• Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation,
• Family Council, Child and Youth Centers
• Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services
• Noble Quran and Sunnah Establishment
• Sharjah University and other entities.

Our People

Sharjah Co-operative has proactively been pursuing an Emiratisation policy since 2015 with good results.

Alongside this, Sharjah Co-operative has a highly diverse and multinational workforce across Head Office, Branches and all other business areas.

We believe strongly in the importance of our people.

A great deal of focus is placed on developing management, business and human resources systems and processes, and we implement special training programs to help our employees work more efficiently and develop as people.

Sharjah Co-operative Society has developed internal policy and procedure systems that comply with the Quality Management Standards (ISO 2009:9001).

This makes us the first among co-operative society and retail stores in the Arabian Gulf to earn this distinction. We apply quality standards and develop programs and services to continuously improve our service to you, our customer.
